Types of Fishing in Florida That You Can Enjoy

The east coast of Florida, roughly south to Stuart and North to Vero Beach is Florida Treasure Coast.  The Intercostals waterway includes all of the Indian River Lagoon, runs North from Stuart Florida approximately 150 miles. The barrier island that separates the ocean from the intercostals waterway is Hutchinson Island and the Fort Pierce Inlet divides the island into north and south.

The Treasure Coast is some of the best fishing sites in Florida because there are so many fishing types you can enjoy here.

The Barrier islands with its unique ecosystem have made the Indian River lagoon the most ecological diverse waterway in all of North America. There are no other places with complete species of fish, mammals, crustaceans and plant life than on Treasure Coast.

Here are some types of fishing in Florida you can enjoy at any given time.

Offshore fishing – if you like big game fish, Stuart as the capitol of the world is the place. The fish list like wahoo, king fish, dolphin and barracuda goes on and on for great offshore sport fishing.

Inshore fishing – the Indian River Lagoon is known for its wide variety of fish. Some fishes like mangrove snapper, Snook, jacks, sea trout, sea bass, pompano, flounder, redfish, sheepshead you can find in this location.

Bottom fishing – a great value for reef fishing was offered by party boats.  The most visited reef in the treasure coast is the six and eight mile reef off and fish like snapper, grouper, sea bass and a variety of others make for a great meal from these bottom feeders.

Surf fishing – paradise for fisherman is miles from tranquil beach. Anything goes at the beach, to catch whiting fish you only need to drop off a few feet from the beach or go large and rig up some shark fishing or anything else.

Freshwater fishing – on the treasure coast, freshwater is everywhere just pulled of the side of the road and fish in a small canal, pond or lake, there are smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. 30 miles west to Lake Okeechobee you will find some of the best freshwater fishing in the country.

Spear fishing – St. Lucie, Sebastian and Fort Pierce are the three inlets along the treasure coast that you could gear up for a spear fishing charter from one of them but you must be certified to scuba dive of course.

The Treasure Coast is a great place to plan a fishing trip and a wonderful place with the great sunrise over the water has make fishing in Florida never been better.
