Fly Fishing for Trout – Tips and Guides

For the various species of trout that exist in the waters and streams of the Western United States, fly fishing for trout is activity that most often done.

You can catch rainbow trout when making trip for fly fishing to Colorado but if you are looking at more bass fishing than trout then the Great Lakes region is the place.

There are places for fly fishing for trout besides in Colorado such as Ontario, North Carolina, Washington and Northern California.

Trout prefer clear, smooth running streams and river that can be found in the mountain and while fishing you will have some great scenery. If you are looking for wild and explosive fish to hook and expected it to take some work when trying to reel it in then Rainbow trout is the one.

These fish are a favorite food fish for many people and have very colorful marking and they like to be in the cool, clear streams and rivers and with water temperature ranging from 55 to 60 degrees. The spring and fall before spawning are the best time to catch these rainbows and variety of flies including streamers, spinners and nymphs are well responded by them.

There are also brown trout which fight less than rainbows but they can be a challenge to hook at the first place, with more patience used absolutely you can catch more of brown trout. These brown trout are timid fish that aware of their surrounding including predators as well as you. A slow flowing stream containing lots of minnows and warmer water in the 60 to 70 degree range are the ideal home for brown trout. During darker light you can fish for larger fish with dry flies, streamers and stonefly nymphs.

The brook trout are smaller than other trout but it has brilliant coloring. They are wild when hooked and you can expect a bit of a fight. The brook trout is rare than other trout and prefer colder water ranging from 40 to 50 degree but they still can be found.

You will be rewarded if you are lucky enough to hook a brook trout and as it can be overwhelming once action begins as the fish travel in schools. You can use a spinner and cast into shallow bottoms in the summer or you can use buck tail on a sinking line to try and land one of these beauties.

Many fly fishermen enjoyed and have exciting experience when fly fishing for trout. When you have to fight for your own leverage, the challenge can be awesome and you will be satisfied with your performance when you can pull the trout out of the water.
