The animal form of plankton called zooplankton is the basic source of food for the smaller fish which the bass feed on. This zooplankton can be found in the bait fish which will be present in abundance. The diet of the zooplankton is at the bottom of the food ladder.
Phytoplankton is the only thing that zooplankton feed on upon the plant form of plankton. Among other things, phytoplankton is composed of algae. And all of the plant forms which covered by the term of phytoplankton contain chlorophyll and when phytoplankton are present in large number, they will cause the water to become stain or discolored. And a sudden increase of phytoplankton is always referred to as a bloom.
The secret on how to fish for bass is when a fisherman has ability to locate a bloom and he will certainly to be very successful because the entire food ladder will be present in great numbers.
