The most popular way to fish for walleye is by using jigs because they will stay on the bottom of the river or lake you are fishing where walleye spend almost all of their time in this area. From all of walleye lures, jigs allow you to do this best while crankbait will be second choice. To keep the bait trailing along the bottom you have to size the jig.  A smaller size will be easier for the walleye to catch because they eat by inhaling the water around the target but choosing one too small also makes it too light. So the best is small weighty jig which will give you the best result.

Walleye jigs come in several types and various shapes may work better in one environment while others may do the trick in different location. The most commonly used is ball style jig because they are so versatile, working in cases of casting and vertical jigging.  They are also choice walleye fishing lures for any type of water such as still water or maintaining a heavy current. For drifting or trolling, larger sizes are popular and a swimming jig is required for casting into the weeds. And to keep it from getting dangerous tangled you have to use the long and flat style of a swimming jig with the hook eye in front. Pancake and current cutter jigs are more hydrodynamics because they are designed especially for swiftly moving water.

Walleye fishing lures should be in bright color and varied to stimulate different type of feed for the walleye.  The brighter the lure the more likely you are to attract attention quickly because the walleye have incredible eyesight especially in murky and dark water. Jigs, crankbaits and other fishing lures come in hundreds of color so varying your color can increase your catch.
